get to know dana.

Dana McKenzie is deeply committed to helping individuals and families achieve their fullest potential, which is the heart of Restore Family Counseling. With over 15 years of experience in counseling and foster care management, Dana has had the privilege of working with a variety of community service agencies, always with a focus on supporting and empowering families.

Dana is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist™, and EMDR-trained therapist who holds her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Virginia Tech and a Master of Arts Degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. Dana loves to work with individuals, married couples, and families seeking support for personal growth, healing, overcoming challenges, and dealing with emotional distress or trauma. Additionally, she incorporates Christian counseling principles for clients seeking faith-based support in their therapeutic journey.

Dana came to southwest Virginia to attend Virginia Tech where she met the love of her life, her husband William. Together, they have settled in Roanoke City and are raising four amazing children. Outside of work, she is an active leader in her church community and a very involved wife and mother.

get to know sadie.

Sadie Beymer received her Bachelors in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2021. She has received her Masters in Social Work from Fordham University in 2023. She is currently a supervisee in social work and is being supervised by Rita Cone, LCSW.

Her passion is helping adolescents overcome trauma. Most of her experiences are with elementary aged children. Sadie worked in an elementary school for five years prior to moving to Virginia. She enjoys working alongside families to ensure a bright future for everyone.

Sadie was born in New Jersey, raised in North Carolina and settled down in Roanoke, Virginia. Sadie and her husband, Aaron, have two dogs, Cedar and Maple, who are best friends. Outside of work, Sadie enjoys taking Cedar and Maple on a run or a hike. When it is time to relax you can find her indulging in the most recent episode of the Kardashians.

get to know kara.

Kara Jones graduated from Longwood University with a degree in Biology- Secondary Education and was a high school teacher before pursuing her Masters in Counselor Education at Virginia Tech. She is currently a resident in counseling under the supervision of Renata Huewitt, LPC and Dana McKenzie, LPC.

Her goal is for her clients to feel seen, heard, and accepted. Her areas of interest include working with trauma and PTSD, attachment, and life transitions in adolescents and adults. She is trained in EMDR and is currently working towards EMDR certification.

Kara grew up in the Roanoke area and is passionate about helping others in the community. She loves helping clients find their voice and heal after trauma. In her free time, she enjoys going on walks with her Yorkie Poo, Peanut, exploring local businesses, and cooking for her friends and family.

get to know whitney.

Whitney Burbage is an experienced outpatient therapist with over 20 years in the mental health field. She specializes in working with children, adolescents, and families, particularly in situations that require intensive clinical support. Her background as a foster parent has given her valuable insight into the challenges families often face. Whitney is known for creating a warm, inviting atmosphere, helping clients feel at ease and open during therapy.

Whitney earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Longwood University and her Master’s degree in Social Work from Radford University. She is currently working as a supervisee in social work under the guidance of Kathy Murphy-Stephenson.

Outside of her professional work, Whitney enjoys spending time with her husband and their three children, along with their three dogs. They are passionate about being near the water and playing sports, which allows them to stay active and enjoy family time.

Gloria Williams has a wealth of experience working with diverse populations, Gloria is truly passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges. She embraces a growth mindset and is committed to continuous personal and professional development. Her compassionate approach emphasizes meeting clients where they are while fostering resilience, self-discovery, and meaningful progress in their lives.

Gloria completed her Bachelor’s degree in Health Science, where she double majored in Human Health and Performance and Pre-Professional Health Science, along with a minor in Coaching. She has recently earned her Master’s in Social Work from Baylor University. Gloria is currently working as a supervisee in social work under the supervision of Shanelle, McClaine, LCSW.

In her spare time, Gloria enjoys soaking up the sunshine outdoors, tackling home projects, and spending quality time with her husband and beloved four-legged friends- her dogs, cat, and horses.

get to know robyn.

Robyn Flint is a passionate and dedicated mental health professional residing in SW Virginia. Born and raised in the Roanoke Valley, the mountains have always held a special place in her heart, serving as a constant reminder of the power of living in a place you love. Robyn holds a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Christian Counseling from Liberty University. Currently, she is a Resident in Counseling, working toward her LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in Virginia under the supervision of Dana McKenzie, LPC.

Robyn has many years of experience in the mental health field and is deeply committed to helping individuals in her community make positive changes in their lives. Her professional experience includes working with children and families in Therapeutic Foster Care as a Family Consultant and Parent Trainer, providing Outpatient Counseling to children and families, and serving as a Site Manager in charge of programs including Therapeutic Day Treatment services, Intensive In-Home, Outpatient Counseling, and Mental Health Skills Services. She is currently working towards her TAC certification allowing her to focus on adoption competent counseling and working with birth parents, adoptees, adoptive parents, and others within the adoption kinship.

Outside of her professional life, Robyn is a proud wife of 33+ years, mother to three grown sons, & MiMi to seven grandchildren. She is also a published author, a local real estate broker, and someone who loves to unwind with thrift shopping, 80’s hair band concerts, & playing with her grandkids.

get to know apryl.

Apryl Davis holds a Master of Social Work degree from Indiana University, which she earned in 2011. Her educational journey also includes nearly completing a Master of Arts in Applied Psychology before the program was discontinued just before she finished her thesis. Apryl has over 10 years of experience in Child Welfare, where she served as a Family Case Manager, providing crucial support to families. Having personally experienced the foster care system, Apryl has a deep passion for helping others in similar circumstances.

Later, Apryl specialized as a Behavior Clinician, working with individuals with Down Syndrome, dementia, and Alzheimer’s. Currently, Apryl is a Supervisee in Social Work, under the supervision of Latonya Bolden, LCSW.

Apryl is dedicated to helping clients work through trauma, anxiety, chronic health conditions, pain, and the effects of abuse and domestic violence. She has a particular passion for supporting parents of adult children with mental health challenges, recognizing a significant gap in services for this population.

In her therapeutic approach, Apryl integrates therapeutic arts and emphasizes the mind-body connection, believing that healing begins in the mind. She encourages clients to actively engage in their own journey toward wellness. Drawing from her extensive experience in child protection and behavior clinical work, Apryl has a nuanced understanding of trauma, resilience, and behavioral dynamics. This background allows her to effectively assess complex situations, identify strengths in adversity, and tailor interventions to meet each client’s individual needs.

Outside of her work, Apryl enjoys spending time with her chihuahua, grandchildren, traveling, and creating art.

get to know melinda.

Melinda Gray adds a wealth of knowledge and experience in organizational and customer service skills as the Office Manager. While assisting in the daily operations of Restore Family Counseling, her smiling face will be the first thing you see when entering our office.

Melinda is a published author, wife to Bryan, and mom to her two children, Rosie and Jack. She is passionate about helping people in her community and supporting local businesses which is why she was so excited to join the team.

On the weekends Melinda loves going to local coffee shops and enjoying the outdoors with her family and friends. You can find her in a hammock at a park, on her moms farm, or hiking on the Appalachian trail while listening to a good audiobook.
